Post your jobWhat to put in your job description
- Which walls or ceilings, and roughly how big.
- What is there now: old plaster, plasterboard, a textured coating, wallpaper.
- Any cracks, damp or loose plaster.
- Whether the room will be empty, and when it can be painted.
- Whether old plaster needs taking off and taking away.
Don't put your name, phone number or address in the description: every trade who covers your area reads it. Your name, phone, email and address go only to the trades who take the job (3 at most).
Questions to ask before you hire
- How long should the new plaster dry before it is painted?
- How will you protect floors and keep the dust down?
- Who takes the old plaster away?
- My ceiling has a textured coating put up before 2000: how will you deal with it?
- Do you have public liability insurance?
Registers and schemes to check
There is no legal register for plasterers. Artex and other textured coatings put up before 2000 may contain asbestos: don't sand or scrape them, and ask the plasterer how they will deal with it, or have a sample tested first. We don't check this for you yet.
Your council in Glasgow
Planning permission and building control are dealt with by your local council. For most of Glasgow that is Glasgow City Council; a postcode at the edge may be in a neighbouring council's area. Ask your council's building standards team (a building warrant) before work that changes the outside of your home, its structure, or a listed building or a home in a conservation area. A trade in a competent person scheme can sign off some work without building control. The Planning Portal and the Party Wall Act are for England and Wales: the rules here are your council's.
We take jobs from G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, G11, G12, G13, G14, G15, G20, G21, G22, G23, G31, G32, G33, G34, G40, G41 and 30 more for Glasgow. Trades choose the districts they cover.

Fair questions
How many plasterers get my details?
3 at most. Plasterers who cover your area see the job first, without your name, phone, email or address. Only the first 3 who take it get your details, for this job only.
Which postcodes count as Glasgow?
We use the postcode districts of the Glasgow post town: G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, G11, G12, G13, G14, G15, G20, G21 and 38 more. Trades choose the districts they cover, and a job goes to trades who cover its district.
Do you check plasterers?
